Tissue Repair Flashcards
1
Q
STEP ONE
A
Inflammation
- Inflammator chemical release by
a) mast cells –> histamine
b) macrophages and injured cells –> others - Capillaries dilate and become permeable
- White blood cells, clotting proteins, antibodies diffuse to injured area
- Clot forms
- Portion exposed to air forms scab
- Excess fluids, destroyed cells and debris is picked up by lymph vessels or macrophages
2
Q
RICE
A
Rest
Ice
Compress
Elevate
3
Q
2 ways
A
- Regeneration
Destroyed tissue replaced with SAME kind of tissue - Fibrosis
Destroyed tissue replaced with DIFFERENT kind of tissue (scar tissue)
4
Q
STEP TWO
A
Organization
- Granulation tissue- replaces blood clot
a. Capillaries to form new network
b. Fibroblasts produce collagen
c. Macrophages digest clot - Granulation tissue is destine to become scar tissue
5
Q
STEP THREE
A
Regeneration and fibrosis
- Surface epithelium regenerates
- Epithelial cells migrate across the granulation tissue below scab
- Fibrosis tissue beneath matures and contracts
6
Q
6 factors affecting blood supply
A
- Adequacy of blood supply
- Type of tissue injured
- Type of injury and immediate care given
- Nutrition
- State of health
- Age
7
Q
Repair of various tissue types (best to worst)
A
- Epithelial
- Bone and most fibrous connective
- Smooth muscle and dense regular
- Skeletal muscle and cartilage
- Cardiac and nervous
