Tissue Notes- Part 3 Flashcards
muscle tissue characteristics
-cellular
-contractility
-high vascularity
-in permanent G0(growth arrest)- can’t make more
contractility
ability to shorten itself(actin and myosin proteins)
cardiac muscle tissue
-found only in the heart
-involuntary
-cells interlock with each other with intercalated discs
smooth muscle tissue
-found in walls of internal organs and blood vessels involuntary
-lacks striations, tapered on ends
-very, very strong
-uterus can come out of permanent G0
skeletal muscle tissue
-also called striated because of striped appearance
-attached to bone
-can be controlled by conscious effort(voluntary)
-cells(muscle fibers) are long and cylindrical and have many nuclei
nervous tissue characteristics
-found in brain, spinal cord, and nerves
-acts as rapid messenger service for body
-2 types of nerve cells
2 types of nerve cells
neurons & neuroglia
neurons
nerve cells, conduct nervous impulses
neuroglia
helper cells that support and nourish the neurons
dendrite
receives messages
perikaryon
cell body
axon
carries message away from the cell body
synapse
space the message must travel through
synaptic vesicles
carry in a vacuole that gets released via exocytosis
