Tissue (Nervous Tissue) Flashcards
1
Q
What do neurons consist of
A
Cell body (soma) - biosynthetic center of neuron; found of nucleus and most organelles
Axon - extends from end of soma; moves nerve impulse
Dendrites - extends from soma; short with branches; receives impulses from axon; delivers impulses soma
2
Q
What are neuroglial cells
A
-diverse group of smaller cells
-supports activity of neurons
3
Q
What are the functions of the neuroglial cells
A
-anchors neurons and blood vessels in place
-monitors composition of ECF
-Speeds up rate of nerve impulse transmission
-Circulates fluid around brain and spinal cord
-Divides by mitosis
