Tissue (Cell Junctions) Flashcards
What do cell junctions do
-binds cells together
-neighbors plasma membrane
-linked by integral proteins
What are the different types of cell junctions
Tight junctions, desmosomes, and gap junctions
What do tight junctions do
-holds cell tightly together
-prevents macromolecules from passing between adjacent cells
-has integral proteins
-is in between cells of blood vessels
-acts like zipper
-some tight junctions are leaky in order for some substances to pass through
What do desmosomes do
-has integral proteins
-acts like a button
-increases strength of tissue by holding cells together
What do gap junctions do
-link adjacent cells
-are small pores in the cell membrane
-allows substances to pass through the cytosol of cells
