Tissue and organs Flashcards
name the 5 layers (from the outside in) of the alimentary canal in the ileum.
Serosa-Thin protective and supportive layer
Muscularis externa- Contractions of longitudinal muscle=pendular movement, contractions of circular muscle=local constrictions for peristalsis
submucosa-connective tissue containing blood cells which transport absorbed food products
muscularis mucosa- surface with thin layer of muscles extending up into villi, and contract to control the wafting movement
mucosa- surface with villi
Villi
Columnar epithelial cells= many mitochondria and secrete enzymes Goblet cells= secrete mucus Crypts of Lieberkoohn=produce new epithelial cells Paneth cells= anti-microbial role
name the 4 layers (top to bottom) of a leaf
Upper epidermis= transparent, waxy cuticle. protective role.
Palisade mesophyll-photosynthesizing region. Arranged regularly to contain as many as possible.
Spongy mesophyll-Gaseous exchange cells like xylem and ploem
Lower epidermis- Stomata= pores to allow exchange of gas Guard cells= turgid, open the stomata up, when flaccid, they close the stomata.
