DNA Tech Flashcards
1
Q
What is PCR?
A
Polymerase Chain Reaction: DNA heated to 95C, breaking hydrogen bonds. DNA cooled to 40-60C, adding primers (stops DNA rejoining, bracket DNA section to be copied). Mixture is heated to 70C. DNA polymerase is added and copies each strand. It is thermostable. Two DNA molecules formed.
2
Q
What is its role?
A
Amplify samples for forensic analysis
3
Q
What are genetic markers?
A
Restriction endonuclease Enzymes= enzymes that cut DNA at specific nucleotide sequences
4
Q
What are DNA probes?
A
A known single strand sequence of DNA which has been radioactively or fluorescently labelled. (X-ray for radioactive, UV for fluor)
