Increased epidermal turnover
Which gender is more likely to have tinea?
Females
What organism causes most cases of ringworm?
Trichophyton Rubrum (human-human)
2nd most common organism causing ringworm?
Trichophyton Mentagraphytes (human-human)
Treating localized areas?
Clotrimazole (canestan), Miconazole 2-3 daily for 10 days after lesions have healed
Treating extensive skin or nail infections?
Oral antifungals
Finger Nails: Terbinafine 6-12 weeks
Toe nails: Terbinafine 3-6 months
Investigation for ringworm?
-Clinical appearance
-Skin scrapings/nail clippings….send to lab for cultures
