What causes scabies?

Sarcoptes scabiei

What is Norwegian scabies?
A
Chronic crusty form- HIGHLY contagious
Seen most commonly in immunocompromised and elderly

Presentation of scabies?
A
V. Itchy rash in genital area, finger webs, umbilicus and wrists,
Often worse at night

Treatment of scabies?
A
Malathion or permethrin lotion (applied overnight to whole body)
-Benzyl benzoate (Avoid in kids)

What does the scabies rash look like?
A
Erythematous pupules, vesicles, pustules or nodules

visible burrows
