Time-graphs Flashcards
What are the types of graphs?
Displacement
Velocity
Acceleration
Stationary on DISTANCE-time graph
A horizontal line on a distance-time graph means that the object is at rest (𝑣 = 0 𝑚 𝑠^(−1) ).
Constant speed on DISTANCE-time graph
A straight line with a constant slope on a distance-time graph means the object in question is travelling at a constant speed.
SPEED-time graphs - stationary
A straight horizontal line along the time axis shows the object is not moving (stationary).
SPEED-time graphs – constant speed
A straight horizontal line at any point other than the zero line shows that the object is moving at a constant speed.
Displacement on a DISPLACEMENT-time graph
Add up total distance=displacement
Velocity on a DISPLACEMENT-time graph
𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑐𝑖𝑡𝑦=𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡/𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒
𝑣=𝑑/𝑡
Speed on DISPLACEMENT-time graph
𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑒𝑑=𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒/𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒
𝑣=𝑑/𝑡
how to find acceleration and displacement on a VELOCITY-time graph
The gradient of a velocity-time graph will give the acceleration.
The area under a velocity-time graph will give the displacement
