Timber Manufacturing Flashcards
Router
Can be used to shape, cut and create different designs in wood. Different cutting tools can be used that have different profiles
Turning
Pieces of timber are rotated and cutting tools are then used to shape the material
Laminating
Thin strips of wood are glued together in a former. It is often used to create curved shapes and famously in furniture design, including Marcel Breuer and Ikea

Steam bending
Thicker pieces of timber can be bent if they are steamed first. The steam penetrates the timber fibres and temporarily softens them, allowing them to be formed.
Kerfing
Adding thin saw cuts into thick material, you can make it flexible, enabling you to make curved shapes
