Q

Compare porcelain And ceramic

A

Porcelain is known as the most durable type of tile. It’s harder, denser, tougher and less porous than ceramic
-it has a very low absorption rate meaning it’s waterproof.
-it has the ability to mimic real stone slabs at a much lower cost.
Con: can’t get bright coloured porcelain tiles due to the heating process

Ceramic is better to use on walls as it is leas durable and long lasting when exposed to high traffic.
Pro: can get bright colours due to the heating process

Q

Large format tiles vs smaller tiles

A

Large format tiles is a great way to achieve fewer grout lines and a uniform aesthetic but can be more expensive due to floor levelling and heavy lifting required

Smaller tiles are offered I. An endless variety of more decorative shapes, patters, textures, and glazes. They can also be helpful with solving awkward angles or uneven spaces.

Q

Explain the ceramic tile manufacturing

A

-It is a mono cooking process
-shape clay mixtures in various sizes (raw material) (clay & sand)
-a lot of mixing happens with water
- compress all together (extract water contents)
- cook for a long time at high temp
- there are rolls that the tiles go though which has a design printed on. The more designs the more rolls you’ll need and the more expensive it’ll be.
-can achieve bright colours because it is cooked twice, one without colour and one with colour

Q

Name the P.E.I (Porcelain Enamel Institute) rating grades

A

P.E.I:
1- weakest: suitable for residential on walls, no foot traffic
2- light residential traffic
3- will use for light traffic
4- can use in restaurants, boutiques, etc
5- strongest: will use for heavy traffic like airport, mall, metro station

Q

Explain anti-slip raiting

A

R9- lowest slip resistance (cheaper in price)
R13- highest slip resistance (more of a matte finish)

There are 3 type of railings:
A- lowest slip resistance
B- medium slip resistance
C- highest slip resistance (used in bathrooms, spas, pools)
