Describe laminate flooring.
-Popular for its ability to imitate the appearance of wood planks.
-The level of durability and cost depends on the quality of the print layer and the thickness of the layers.
Name the pros and cons of laminate flooring.
Pros: affordable, very resilient, easy installation, very durable
Cons: once heavily worn or deeply scratched, it cannot be sanded or repaired.
It can easily bubble, wrap and buckle so not recommended for areas that are exposed to water
Describe vinyl flooring.
-Available in many shapes and sizes and styles.
-There’s 2 types of vinyl flooring:
1: LVP (luxury vinyl plank) which is popular for those who want to mimic the look of hardwood floors for cheap price.
2: LVT(Tile) which is offered in a tile shape and mostly used in commercial settings.
Pros and cons of vinyl flooring.
Pros: affordable, more water resistant, softer, less slippery, easier on feet, quieter, easy installation, resilient
Cons: not environmentally friendly, doesn’t always add to resale value and cannot be repaired.
Describe engineered hardwood.
-Most complicated due to cost, installation, durability but has very beautiful results.
-real wood floors often require treatment and need time to settle before installation.
Pros and cons of engineered hardwood.
Pros: elegant, can be stained a colour of your choosing, add resale value.
Cons: expensive, hard/long installation, not water resistant. (Pet scratches and pee can be a big issue)
Describe polished concrete.
-Popular for the industrial aesthetic
Pros and cons of polished concrete.
Pros: highly durable, cost effective, easily maintained, hard to chip (good option for high traffic)
Cons: Some don’t like because it’s hard, cold and loud. Dangerous for babies or children to play.
