Tides And Currents Flashcards
1)VTS tidal broadcast
VTS will provide a title broadcast advisory when tides are predicted in excess of 10ft. With tide level meets or exceeds 10 feet vessel, should proceed at a safe speed that minimize risk of wake damage. During periods of unusually high tides, navigate with caution, a free, floating logs, and submerge deadheads or sinkers.
2) port Townsend tide
Mean range 5.2ft
Normal diurnal range 8.4ft
There may be only one high and one low per day in the vicinity of port Townsend. The range of tide In this area increases the further south you go. During the winter when South winds prevail there’s generally in North surface current which increases the ebb and decreases the flood.
3) velocities between Pt. Wilson and pt. No Pt.
Velocities of 2-7 kts occur. In more open water south of point no point current velocities are much less. Floods to the SE and ebbs to the NW
4) currents admiralty
High currents above 3-4 kts and extremely low tides in admiralty bay can close the Keystone ferry terminal
5)bush pt current
Off bush Pt. Flood current sets strongly on to the point. Lighted buoy SC has been reported submerged during periods Of strong currents. Buoy SB is no longer in place due to very strong current force.
6) rip tides
Heavy riptides can occur north and east of point Wilson during ebb tides and Westerly or Northwest winds. Tide rips also occur off double Bluff, and foul weather bluff with the ebb tide and NW wind. There is frequently and eddy on mutiny bay.
