What is 6.1 in the Conditions of Travel policy?
6.1:
You must have a valid ticket before you board a train or you may be subject to a penalty fare
Unless:
- no ticket buying facilities at the station
- you have authorisation to board a train by a member of staff (written/verbal)
- ticket office is closed
- self-service ticket machine is not in working order or will not accept your preferred method of payment (get a Promise to Pay)
- you have a disability and ticket purchasing arrangements are not accessible to you
What are the reasons a penalty fares may be issued in section 10 of the Conditions of Travel?
- Travel without a valid ticket
- Travel in first class with a standard ticket
- Travel on a train where the ticket isnt valid
- Travel on a train company where your ticket isnt valid
- Travel without supoorting document (Railcards etc)
How much is a Penalty Fare?
£100 plus cost of a ticket for the journey; or £50 if paid within 21 days
