What is the thyroid responsible for?
Maintains metabolic levels of almost all cells in the body. Brain function, bone growth, proper sexual maturation, tooth and bone development fetal and neonatal neural and brain function.
How common is thyroid disease?
Among most common conditions in primary care. 5% of adults have thyroid disease or take thyroid drugs. It is eight more times common and women.
When should you screen for thyroid issues?
People with risk factors (hx of T1DM, or other autoimmune disease, family hx of thyroid disease, history of neck radiation/thyroid surgery)
People over 60
Where are T4 and T3 synthesizes within the thyroid?
Follicular cells of thyroid gland
