How many lobes ?

What is the left and right side of the thyroid divided by ?
Isthmus
What is the blood supply to the thyroid?
What is the function of the Thyroid ?
Thyroid hormones T3 +T4 important for metabolism

4
What is the function of parathryoid hormone ?
Secretion of calcium
Where do the parathyroids sit?
Behind the thyroids
What do you need to be careful with a thyroidectomy?
Not to remove the parathyroidglands ! or the body cant produce calcium.
Where is a tracheostomy placed?
Below cricoid cartilage
What is a cricothyroidotomy?
Emergency procedure
Those with massive facial damage.
In between cricoid and thyroid cartilage
Cricothyrotomy (also called cricothyroidotomy) is an infrequent procedure that involves placement of a tube through an incision in the cricothyroid membrane to establish an airway for oxygenation and ventilation
What is the issue with a tracheostomy
Patients can’t talk because there is no way that the air can cause vibration to the vocal cords.
The patient has to put their hand over the tracheostomy to talk.
What is the difference feeling a lymph node secondry to infection and one thats secondary to malignancy
Infection lumps tend to hurt, eg tonsillitis.
Malignancy does not eg under the breast.
What does it mean if you have a tumour and you can feel lymphadenopathy?
It’s spreading! We don’t want this; we want it to keep it contained.
Consider the clinical significance of the cricothyroid membrane, thinking about the anatomy that lies below it. What emergency procedure can occur at this point?
Cricothyroidotomy
e.g. within an anaphylaxis
In relation to structures within the neck, where would the non-emergency version of the above procedure be performed?
Tracheostomy
