Seborrhoeic dermatitis
A
- eczematous lesions on the sebum-rich areas: scalp (may cause dandruff), periorbital, auricular and nasolabial folds
- otitis externa and blepharitis may develop
- topical ketoconzole
- inflammatory reaction related to a proliferation of a normal skin inhabitant, a fungus called Malassezia furfur
- Associated conditions include: HIV, Parkinson’s disease
- OTC: zinc pyrithione (‘Head & Shoulders’) and tar (‘Neutrogena T/Gel’) are first-line
- Preferred second-line agent is ketoconazole
- selenium sulphide and topical corticosteroid may also be useful

Referred lumbar spine pain as a cause of hip pain
A
- A positive femoral nerve stretch test may indicate
- pain may be caused by compression of the femoral nerve and thus stretching this nerve will recreate his pain
