Thrombosis and risk factors for thrombosis Flashcards
1
Q
Venous thromboembolism
-1 and 2 prevention
A
Epidemiology: 1/1000 pop, 20% PE = sudden death
Diagnosis: D-dimer blood test and doppler ultrasound exam of legs. blood tests to look at clotting factors
Prevention: 1) blood thinning meds
2) monitor with ultrasound
Management: pressure stockings, low dose low molecular weight heparin eg fondaparinix / long term warfarin
2
Q
Inherited
Acquired- risk facotors for venous thromboembolism
A
- inherited = known thrombophillias eg anti thrombin deficiency, protein C & S, activated protein X resistance, dysfibrinogenaemia
Acquired = 60+, dehydration, trauma, HRT, varicose veins, antiphospholipid syndrome, pregnancy
3
Q
Risk factors for arterial thrombosis
A
smoking, hypetension, hypercholesterolaemia, diabetes, fx, obesity, male, Factor 5 leiden.
