Q
antiplatelet drugs
A
prevent arterial thrombosis
3
Q

A
lyse arterial and venous thrombi
4
Q
types of arterial thrombosis
A
stroke, MI, peripheral artery occlusion
5
Q
types of venous thrombosis
A
DVT, PE (pulmonary embolism)
other: intracranial, intra-abdominal/pelvic, upper extremities
6
Q
types of embolic disease
A
related to atrial fibrillation or valvular heart disease
7
Q
reasons for anticoagulation
A
prevent: extension of clot from calf into thigh, PE, recurrence, phostphlebitic syndrome, emboli from atrial fibrillation and mechanical heart valves
8
Q
LMWH
A
SC: 1-2x/day ( 1mg/kg q12h) no monitoring needed use: therapeutic and prophylactic enoxaparin, dalteparin, tinzaparin, fondaparinux long T1/2 no antidote Montor with Xa assay: does NOT prolong PTT do NOT use in renal therapy
9
Q
indications for heparins
A
- immediate interruption of coagulation
- maintain anticoagulation in first week of warfarin therapy
- maintain potency of indwelling lines
- prevent clotting of hemodialysis unit and during open heart surgery
- prevention of DVT
