use: therapeutic and prophylactic
enoxaparin, dalteparin, tinzaparin, fondaparinux
long T1/2
no antidote 
Montor with Xa assay: does NOT prolong PTT
do NOT use in renal therapy

  3. maintain potency of indwelling lines
  4. prevent clotting of hemodialysis unit and during open heart surgery
