- most common universal behavioral response to threat
- subjective feelings of uneasiness, worry, apprehension, nervousness, sense of dread or foreboding.

Stress:
- not necessarily conflict
- past, present, future
- multiple causes

Anxiety:
- always conflict
- in the future
- caused by dread or threat
- mental manipulations of reality of one’s life.

feeling of dread & apprehension in response to an EXTERNAL source that is CLEARLY IDENTIFIABLE & DEFINABLE.
