Left/Right brachiocephalic vein
Formed at root of neck by union of left/right subclavian and left/right internal jugular veins
Join to form superior vena cava
Superior vena cava
contains all the venous blood from the head and neck and both upper limbs and is formed by the union of the two brachiocephalic veins
Vena azygos joins posterior aspect just before it enters the pericardium
Azygos veins
consist of the main azygos vein, the inferior hemiazygos vein, and the superior hemiazygos vein
drain blood from the posterior parts of the intercostal spaces, the posterior abdominal wall, the pericardium, the diaphragm, the bronchi, and the esophagus
Inferior vena cava
pierces the central tendon of the diaphragm opposite the eighth thoracic vertebra and almost immediately enters the lowest part of the right atrium
Descending thoracic aorta branches
Posterior intercostal arteries
Pericardial, oesophageal and bronchial arteries
