Thoratic Abdominal Circulation Flashcards
Blood supply to heart
Coronary branches are first branches off from aorta (supplies epicardium and myocardium)
Right coronary artery supplies = right atrium, most of right ventricle
Left coronary artery supplies = left atrium, most of left ventricle, part of right ventricle
Supply of blood from both overlaps in many areas of the heart
Venous return
Great, middle, and small cardiac veins
Veins drain into coronary sinus, which dumps into right atrium
Bypass surgery
Use either internal thoratic artery or great saphenous vein
Double bypass implies 2 coronary arteries were blocked
Upper body circulation
Aortic arch Brachiocephatic trunk = right common carotid, right subclavian Left common carotid artery Left subclavian artery Supplies head and arms Blood returns through superior vena cava
Lower body circulation
Abdominal aorta (from descending thoratic aorta) Supplies abdomen and legs Blood returns through inferior vena cava
Circulation to the abdomen
Abdominal aorta
From thoratic descending aorta, passes through aortic hiatus of diaphragm, bifurcates into R/L common iliac arteries
4 main branches = CT, SM, R, IM
Celiac trunk
Distal to aortic hiatus of diaphragm
Divides into left gastric, splenic, and common hepatic arteries
Supplies esophagus, stomach, proximal duodenum, liver, binary apparatus, and pancreas
Left gastric artery
From celiac trunk
Ascends to esophageal hiatus
Supplies distal esophagus and lesser curvature of stomach
Splenic artery
From celiac trunk
Along superior border of pancreas
Supplies body of pancreas, spleen, and greater curvature of stomach
Common hepatic artery
From celiac trunk
Runs to hepatoduodenal ligament and into porta hepatis of liver
Supplies liver, gall bladder, stomach, pancreas, and duodenum
Gastroduodenal
From common hepatic artery
Descends posterior to gastroduodenal junction
Supplies stomach, pancreas, and proximal duodenum
Superior mesenteric
From abdominal aorta
Inferior to celiac trunk
Runs to ileocecal junction
Supplies part of GI tract derived from midgut
Renal
From abdominal aorta
Inferior to superior mesenteric artery
Parked arteries run lateral to each kidney
Inferior mesenteric
From abdominal aorta
Inferior to renal arteries
Descends to left of abdominal aorta
Supplies part of GI tract derived from hindgut
