what is the mechanism of injury?
A
decelerating force

what are the clinical features?
A
contained haematoma: persistent hypotension
detected mainly by history, CXR changes

what are the CXR changes?
A
- widened mediastinum
- trachea/ oesophagus right
- depression of left main stem bronchus
- widened paratracheal stripe/paraspinal interfaces
- space between aorta and pulmonary artery obliterated
- rib fracture/left haemothorax.

how do you diagnose?
A
angiography, usually CT aortogram

what is the treatment?
A
repair or replacement. ideally undergo endovascular repair

what may survivors have?
A
incomplete laceration at the ligamentum arteriosum of the aorta
