Proteinuria
A
- Should not be protein in urine (trace protein isnt a big dael)
- DM, preeclampsia, multipe myeloma, nephrotic syndrome, UTI, blood, muscle breakdown (exercise), illness or stress
- will all cause proteins in urine

Conditions which glucose is found in urine
A
- DM, cushings, liver, pancreatic dz
- YOU CANNOT DIAGNOSE DIABETES BASED ON URINALYSIS
- renal dysfunction
ONLY occurs if blood sugar gets above 300

A
- Trauma
- Blood without RBCs can mean RHABDOMYOLYSIS
- menses
- blood thinners
- UTI
- renal stones (10% no hematuria)
- cancer in renal system
- often benign (very common)

A
- from the breakdown of WBC
- can indicate UTI (but OVERLY SENSITIVE
- positive with “dirty” clean catch, std, etc

Nitrites
A
- Very specific, low sensitivity for UTI (if you have it it is positive for UTI but misses half of them)
- gram negative bugs produce an enzyme named reductase taht coverts nitrates to nitrites

A
- Hemolytic anemia
- bile obstruction
- hepatitis

A
- can be seen in hemolysis and in liver disease
- end product of conjugated bilirubin after metabolized by intestines
- can be falseyly positive in UTI with positive nitrites
