Thigh Flashcards
Hamstring Strain
Hamstring
Type 1- Sprinting, during terminal swing as he hamstring contracts essentially to decelerate the limb
- May be long head biceps femoris
Type 2- End range of hip flexion, knee extension usually high power, kicking, dancing
- May be semitendinosus
Grade 1- Minimal Structural disruption, return to normal functioning
Grade 2- Partial Rupture (approx 50% fibres torn) pain and some loss of function
Grade 3- More than 50% Fibres torn, functional disability
Non modifiable risk factors
- Previous injury
- Older age
- Ethnicity
Modifiable risk factors
- Anjkle dorsiflexion : <12 in community, <10 in AFL
- Hip flexoor reduced ROM
- Strong quads compared to hamstrings, making the concentric to great
Treatment
Phase 1- Acute Phase
-reducing pain
-regain functional ability
Phase 2- rehab phase
- Load the hamstring (concentric)
- Return to running
Phase 3 - return to sport
Eccentric
