His father, king Aegeus was woreried for him and told him to change the black sails to white on the return so he would know he was safe

Theseus arrived and Ariadne King Minos’s daughter fell in love with him and gave him a sword and a ball of string to find his way home so in return he would marry her
Did Theseus defeat the Minotaur
Yes, he killed him and they sailed away with Ariadne
Did they return safely to Athens
During the trip home there was a storm and the stayed on an Island. Dionysus appeared and swept all memories the Athenians had of Ariadne as he wanted to marry her

Yes, they left her and Theseus also forgot to change the sails
