Thermoregulation Flashcards
what temp is the body kept at?
37C
what part of your brain maintains the temp?
Thermoregulatory centre
what happenes when the temp is too high?
.sweat glands release sweat on the surface of your skin, the sweat evaporates taking energy from your body
.flushing, under the skin we have a network of blood capillaries which get wider
what is vasodilation?
under the skin we have a network of blood capillaries which get wider this means more blood flows through them and heat can now transfer out of the blood
what happenes if your temp drops too low?
.stop sweating
.capillaries constrict making it narrow
.shiver, our skeletal muscles contract, too generate energy the muscle cells increase rate of resperation this releases heat
what is vasoconstriction?
capillaries constrict making it narrow which means less blood flows through capillaries and less heat is lost through body
