Thermal Energy Transfer Flashcards
Where does kinetic energy come from
Random movement of particles in a gas
Where does potential energy come from
Interactions between the particles in a gas
What is internal energy
The sum of all the kinetic and potential energies of all particles of a gas
What is specific heat capacity
The energy required to raise the temperature of 1kg of a substance by 1 degrees
What is latent heat
The energy required to change the state of a substance
This energy contributes to weakening the intermolecular bonds not raising temperature
What is the equation for energy needed in term of SLH
Energy required = Specific latent heat x mass
Why is there no change in temperature when latent heat is added to a solid ?
Because latent heat only contributes to weakening the bonds between the molecules
