Family mapping

Cognitive restructuring
The core process of CBT, used to identify and dispute cognitive distortions.
Systematic desensitization
The core process of exposure therapy, used to treat specific phobias.
Cognitive homework
An important component of CBT, involving practice and rehearsal of new skills, and coping strategies.
Family Sculpting
A movement therapy technique, where one member of the family (the ‘sculptor’) arranges the others and themselves to portray their perception of the family or a past event.
Relaxation training
The process of practicing relaxation techniques to induce calm and reduce anxiety, stress, or anger.

Type of CBT used for treating PTSD
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Short-term, evidence based, problem-solving approach.
Addresses: depression, anxiety, anger issues, eating disorders, marital difficulties, and OCD.
Cognitive Stimulation Therapy
Short-term, evidenced based intervention built around themed activities for mild to moderate dementia or Alzheimers disease.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Approach focusing on mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation

Imago Relationship Therapy
Form of couples counseling that focuses on recognizing how early childhood relationship experiences affect how we communicate, behave, and respond to others in adult relationships.

Mentalization-Based Therapy
Evidence-based treatment, where other treatments have been unsuccessful

A method focusing on helping people resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find internal motivation to address addiction and management of physical health conditions.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming Therapy
NLP
A set of language- and sensory-based interventions intended to improve client’s self-awareness, confidence, communication skills, and social skills.
Address: anxiety, poor self-esteem
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy
PCIT
A combination of play therapy and behavioral therapy for children ages 2 to 7 and their caregivers, to address disruptive behavior or trauma, as well as symptoms of autism spectrum disorder.
Prolonged Exposure Therapy
PET
Form of psychotherapy for treatment of PTSD.
Psychoanalytic Therapy
Freudian talk therapy aimed at bringing unconscious thoughts and feelings to the surface to be examined.
Addresses: depression, trauma, self-destructive behavior, personality disorders, relationship issues.
Psychodynamic Therapy
In-depth talk therapy differentiated from psychoanalysis by the additional focus on client’s relationship with the external world.

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy

Short-term method focused on challenging the rationality of self-defeating thoughts and feelings.
Addresses: anxiety, depression, guilt, anger.
Social Recovery Therapy
CBT intervention focused on treating schizophrenia by improving social skills and encouraging participation in social activities.

Holistic approach focused on spiritual wellness
