Affective functioning
The motivational, behavioral, and subjective aspects of emotions.
Cognitive functioning
Mental abilities, including learning, thinking, reasoning, remembering, problem-solving, decision making, and attention.
Vegetative symptoms
Typical of depression, including: weight loss, loss of appetite, insomnia, fatigue, low energy, inattention.
Moral reasoning
The process through which individuals try to determine the difference between right and wrong using logic.
Developmental disabilities
A group of conditions impairing physical, learning, language, or behavioral areas of development which may impact day-to-day functioning, and usually last throughout a person’s lifetime.
Cognitive symptoms of PTSD
- Dissociative amnesia around trauma
- Persistent or exaggerated negative beliefs about themselves or the world
- Persistent, distorted cognitions about the cause or consequence of the trauma
- Persistent negative emotional state
- Diminished interest or participation in related activities
- Feelings of detachment or estrangement from others
- Persistent inability to experience positive emotions
Arousal symptoms of PTSD
- Irritability
- Reckless or self-destructive behavior
- Hypervigilence
- Exaggerated startle response
- Problems with concentration
- Sleep disturbance
