What does the DASH diet acronym stand for?
Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension
What is the DASH diet high and low in?
High: calcium, potassium and magnesium (dairy, fruit, veg, nuts, eggs)
Low: sodium, sugar and far (processed foods and animal proteins)
Main benefit and some secondary benefits of DASH diet?
Main: lowers blood pressure
Secondary: lowers insulin resistance, lowers risk of cardiac events
What are FODMAPs and what does the acronym stand for?
Group of carbohydrates that may not be digested properly
Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols
What are some examples of oligosaccharides?
Wheat, rye, onions, garlic, legumes
Examples of disaccharides?
Milk, cheese, yoghurt
Example of monosaccharides?
Honey, apples
Examples of polyols?
Some fruit and vegetables, artificial sweeteners
What is the low FODMAP diet generally used to treat?
IBS (gas, bloating, constipation, etc.)

Based on wholefoods and low in saturated fat. High in polyphenols.
