Q
The theories of clinical depression help us understand how and why we get
depression. Evolutionary psychologists think that thousands of years ago
depression was a survival strategy that helped maintain the society so that if we
were defeated, the depression would stop us fighting to regain what we lost and
allow social change to occur without too much conflict.
The cognitive approach assumes that depression comes from us having an
irrational perspective of the world around and how events affect us.
