Quality Management is defined as…
The coordinated activities to direct and control an organisation with regard to quality.
Customer’s Quality Expectations

Acceptance Criteria

Purpose of Quality Planning
- Project board agrees on expectations/acceptance criteria.
- Communicating agreements with the stakeholders.
- Baseline for the project’s quality controls and tolerances.
Purpose of Quality Control
Ensure products:
1. are fit for purpose
2. meets its quality criteria
and that the results are recorded in the quality register.
Quality Control involves
- Checking products meet their quality criteria
2. Implementing lessons we have learned
Quality Assurance - characteristics
- Check project is managed/directed correctly
- In line with corporate/programme/customer standards and policies
- Independent of the project
Project Assurance - characteristics
- Project Board responsibility
- Each board member has their own set of responsibilities
- Not independent of the project
- Cannot be delegated to the Project Manager, Project Support, Team Manager
Quality theme - Minimum Requirements (rules)
P2 Project must:
- Define its quality mgmt approach covering as a min:
- the approach to quality control
- the approach to project assurance
- the way quality will be communicated through the life cycle
- the roles and responsibilities - Ensure the quality criteria for the products are specified in the products descriptions
- Maintain quality records
- Specify customer’s quality expectations and acceptance criteria
- Use lessons to inform planning
