What is the role of the EU?
To have economic cooperation between its member states including ease of trading also to help each other when under difficult circumstances such as conflict
What is the UN
United Nations which is an international Organization that aim to achieve international cooperation and fix global issues such as global warming, human rights and give aid to developing countries
They try to peacefully resolve disputes
What is the Commonwealth
The common wealth is an intergovernmental Organization of 53 member states that were part of the British empire
What is the role of the common wealth?
To encourage democracy and human rights between member states
To promote equality between the member states
What is NATO and what do they aim to do?
North Atlantic Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental military alliance, where members agree mutual defends in response to an attack by any external party.
They try to prevent conflict
Build cooperation between member states and trust
What is the G7?
They are an international organization that allow world leaders to discuss and fix global issues.
They also create global policies
What is the EU
The European Union, is a economic and political union between 28 European countries
What is globalisation ?
International integration as a result of as a result of trading and cultural exchange
The world becoming increasingly interconnected, as a result of trading and cultural exchange
What are the advantages of globalisation ?
Globalisation create more jobs in countries including LEDC’s
Money is invested into poor countries (FDI- Foreign Direct Investment) where a company invest in a company in a different country, this helps improve quality of life for these people.
What are the negatives of globalisation ?
It means a loss oh jobs in developed countries as products are being made somewhere else
Many developing countries don’t have laws to protect their workers so they are paid low wages and have bad working conditions, while the company makes huge profits ę.g Apple making iPhones in China
Globalisation leads to more pollution due to increased factories and shipping of goods by aeroplane and boat
What is fair trade?
Trade between developed countries and producers in developing countries where the produces are paid and treated fairly .
What is Ethical trade?
Where retailers and brands are responsible for improving work conditions for people who make the good/services they sell
What is an aid programme
A plan to provide help to developing countries
Give an example of previous International Conflict
In 1998 a group of supported by the Taliban and lead by Osama Bin Laden bombed US embassies in Tanzania and Kenya killing over 200 people,
The UN imposed financial sanctions on Afghanistan in 1999 and 2000 to try to make them hand over Osama Bin Laden for trial
On September 11th 2001, terrorist attacks in the USA killed 3000 people and destroyed the World Trade Centre
12 th September NATO declared that the member states of NATO must see this attack on USA as an attack on all of them and support the USA.
The U.S. President demanded that Taliban hand over Al-Qaeda leaders and declared a ‘war on terror’
On October 7th 2001 the U.S. And UK sent anti Taliban forces to overthrow Taliban and bombed them.
Taliban troops were forced out of Kabul , Laden escaped and eventually was killed on May 2nd 2011
