The Visible Light and Em Spectrum Flashcards
What is the visible light spectrum?
The visible light spectrum is the amount of electromagnetic waves that can be detected by the human eye.
What are the colours in the spectrum?
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.
What is the analogy for the spectrum?
ROYGBIV.
What is light?
Light is a form of energy called electromagnetic radiation.
How does light travel? Does it need particles to travel through?
Light travels through an electromagnetic wave. It can pass through a vacuum, so it does not need particles to travel through.
What is the speed of Em Waves?
3x108 m/s
What is the electromagnetic spectrum?
The Em spectrum is the range of all the different Em waves. All the waves in the spectrum are different in wavelengths.
Which part of the Em spectrum is absorbed by the ozone layer?
UV
Which part of the Em spectrum passes through thick solids?
Gamma rays
Which part of the Em spectrum is beamed to satellites?
Microwaves
Which part of the Em spectrum is used in photosynthesis?
Visible light
Which part of the Em spectrum is felt as heat?
Infrared
Which part of the Em spectrum provides images of the inside of the body?
X-rays
Which part of the Em spectrum detects forgeries?
UV
