A
  • Many saw black people as inferior , lazy and unintellegant
  • police and law courts were all racist ( ku klux klan members )
  • black people were intimidated by white gangs

What were the 5 ways in which the civil rights movement grew ?

A

Migration - poor blacks moved north , changes southern communities
Education - better education for black people led to more professionals
Second world war - whites saw blacks as able , fighting with them
Southern cities grew - new industries grew opening jobs for black people
The cold war - US government were sensitive to discrimination about how blacks were treated
Television - this brought events into the living room making people aware of racial injustice
New ideas - research disproved that races were genetically inferior

A

National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People
Set up in 1909 , in 1940 set up a legal defence fund
Campaigned for intregation
Focused on fighting civil rights in the south

A

They had well educated effective speakers used for propaganda , they also had lots of contacts which was good for orginising stuff .
Clergymen were very well educated and polite .
The church was a safe place - centre pf community
