The Urinary System Flashcards
What is in the renal corpuscle and what is in the renal tubule?
Corpuscle - Bowmans capsule, glomerulus
Tubule - PCT, loop of henle, DCT, Collecting tubule
What is the bowmans capsule composed of?
Outer wall -parietal epithelium
Inner wall - visceral epithelium
-Contains podocytes w processes
What is the name of the supporting connective tissue in the renal corpuscle?
Mesangium
What kind of epithelium is there in the proximal convoluted tubule and what is its func?
-Simple cuboidal epithelium w microvilli
-Reabsorbs nutrients, ions, water, plasma proteins
What types of epithelium is there in the loop of henle?
-Thin segment - simple squamous epithelium
-Thick segment - simple cuboidal epithelium
-Func similar to PCT
What type of epithelium is there in the DCT and what is its func?
-Simple cuboidal epithelium
-Reabsorbs ions and water
-Secretes acids, drugs, toxins
What is the Juxtaglomerular apparatus and what does it secrete?
-Macula densa of DCT + Juxtaglomerular cells of afferent arteriole
-Secretes Renin (bp regulator) and Erythropoietin (erythrocyte production)
Whta kind of epithelium is present in the collecting tubules?
Simple cuboidal epithelium
What kind of epithelium is present in the collecting duct?
Simple columnar epithelium
What kind of epithelium is present in the papillary (bellini) duct?
Simple columnar epithelium
