o Begins at bladder neck and passes through prostate gland o Receives the ejaculatory ducts and prostaic ducts o WIDEST part o MOST DISTENSIBLE PART
describe the membranous urethra
o Passes through the pelvic floor and DEEP PERINEAL POUCH o Surrounded by the external urethral sphincter o NARROWEST o LEAST DISTENSIBLE PART
Describe the penile urethra?
o Also known as bulbous o Ends at the external urethreal orifice (a.k.a the meatus) o Receives the bulbourethral glands proximally o In the head (glans) of the penis- the urethra dilates to form the NAVICULAR FOSSA
what is the final dilatation of the urethra known as?

catheterisation in males?
o More difficult as 2 angles to consider: the infrapubic and the pre-pubic angles o Pre-pubic angle can be diminished by holding the penis up during catheterization o 3 constrictions in the urethra: external urethral orifice, internal urethral sphincter, external urethral sphincter
