Assassination of the Archduke by Gavrilo Princip?
The Alliances were called forth when the Archduke of Austria-hungary was assassinated in Serbia by Gavrilo Princip while driving in a car with his wife. Serbia had already been on bad terms and wanted to be its own collection of nations, so this caused Germany to back Austria-Hungary and Russia to back Serbia which caused France to join as well as Italy and we know how this all goes.
Schlieffen Plan - Why didn’t it work?
The Schlieffen plan was to go to France, take them out, and then go and finish russia off, avoiding a war on 2 fronts. The downfall of this plan, going through neutral Belgium, causing the Britt’s to leap into attack as they did not want Germany to trample over the little guy. This caused enough reinforcements on the Western Front that they did fight a way on 2 fronts, which led to their downfall.
The “Rape of Belgium” - What is it?
The British used over the top propaganda saying that Germany “raped” Belgium and causing their people to turn against the Germans even more. It was a type of justification.
