Organizing the Economy Flashcards
Women Support Industry - How?
With all the men gone, America needed people to do the industrial jobs. For this brief moment, women were put to work and the walls of prejudice were taken down. This gave women a rare opportunity to explore themselves before they went back to the kitchen.
The Great Migration - What was it?
The Great Migration was the movement of some six million African Americans from rural areas of the Southern states of the United States to urban areas in the Northern states between 1916 and 1970. It occurred in two waves, basically before and after the Great Depression.
Civil Liberties - Espionage and Sedition Acts
Freedom of speech was taken away from everyone, and these acts made it a crime to talk poorly or abuse the constitution, government, military, and more. This was the first time freedom of speech was taken away from the whole nation.
Mexican American Migration - What was it?
The first surge began in the 1900s. Revolution in Mexico and a strong U.S. economy brought a tremendous increase in Mexican immigration rates. Between 1910 and 1930, the number of Mexican immigrants counted by the U.S. census tripled from 200,000 to 600,000. The actual number was probably far greater.
