What was the un?
International peace keeping body that was formed after ww2 in 1945 to promote global peace, security and cooperation. Its five permanent members are china, Russia, the uk , the USA and France. Their main aim was to minimise conflict conflict by providing a platform for dialogue between nations. Colonised countries were represented by their colonisers which increased the usas power bc they were at an advantage compared to the USSR in terms of world domination, more international dimension and recognision
Why did the ussr saw the un as a western centric institution?
20/50 original members were capitalist, the members from the Middle East were also pro- western states which enhance the popularity of the us, the un failed to recognise maos gov, which was a further illustration to the ussr that the un was western centric and disqualified the recognition of communist govs.
What did the USA see the un as?
An opportunity to use the un as a vehicle for intervention on a global scale, in order to enhance its own FP aims.
Why was their tension between the USA and the ussr in terms of veto?
