- Large market (19 million people for goods and services)
- Skilled local labour force (Oxbridge and London universities)
Politics:
- Close to decision making centre (national government)
Geographical:
- Region is close to Chanel Tunnel, giving access to Europe
- Rail and road networks centre on and radiate out form London
