Movement of older people to retire in a different part of the same country.

Movement of people to a different country.
National Migration
Movement of people within the same country.
Rural to Urban Migration
Movement of people from the countryside to towns and cities.
Why do people migrate?
Better opportunities for jobs and universities and for cheaper retirement.
Why do people immigrate?
There may be war and conflict in countries people are leaving, people want a better quality of life than what is offered in their origin country.
What are the issues with retirement migration?
Retirement migration creates a demand for services and increases housing prices. It also adds a larger number of older people to host areas.
What are some benefits of immigration?
Introduces new cultures e.g. food, provides new sources of cheap labour, increases birth rate which combats the aging population.
What are some issues with Immigration?
Increases population density and puts pressure on services, can lead to social conflict.
