What is the Book of Psalms?

A

A book in the Old Testament containing pieces of poetry that are sometimes set to music.
Psalms are centered around the praise of God, through all aspects of life.
Supposed to be sung with joy knowing God is with us.
Examples: The lord is my shepard, Eagles Wings.

A

A collection of psalms and readings that every priest, monk and nun has to say at least four times a day.

A

Music onwards of 1970’s, religious songs which have been witten for the praise of God, normally with modern instruments. Characteristics:

  • Full range of instruments allowed
  • Tends to be more lively
  • Modern/Pop style

  • Examples: ‘Here I am to worship’ and ‘10000 reasons’.

What is the Mass Settings?

A

Music that enables people to sing certain parts of the Mass. Use simple melodies to reflect a style of music that is contempory and easy to join in. Examples are : the Alleluia, the Eucharistic Acclamations, the ‘Lord have Mercy’, the ‘Glory to God’ and the ‘Lamb of God’.

A

  • Hebrew word for ‘Praise to God’
  • Sung before the Gospel is read, it greets the presence of Christ through the word of God.
  • It is a hymn of joy, praise and triumph of God.
  • Is the Easter proclamation, the Annoucement of the Resurrection.

A

The Eucharist Acclamations is used in Mass as a thanksgiving sacrifice to God and praising with great enthusiasm.
It is made up of the Sanctus and The Mystery of Faith.

A

A hymn of praise to the three-fold Holy God, which is used before the Eucharist Prayer in Mass.

  • The three repetions of ‘holy’ shows God is completely holy.
  • Three ‘Holys’ relresent the three people in one God.
  • Can be sung as a jubilent hymn.

What is the Mystery of Faith (Memorial Acclamation)?

A

The acclamation after the consecration, when people acknowledge what Christ has done for them.

  • In doing this we proclaim that the consecration represents Jesus death and resurection.
  • Through this event it shows the depth of his love for all people.
  • Said powerfully and whole heartedly.

A

A

Preaching the good news about Jesus (Gospel) to other people. Can be done by talking them or through actions.

  • The bible states that ‘God is love’ John.
  • Therefore to have love there must be three things: the persons who loves, the person who is loved, and the love unites them.
  • The Trinity can be thought of as three Persons united in love.
  • Father loves to Son and the Son loves the Farther, the love that united them is the holy spirit.
  • Holy Spirit is in the heart of believers, sharing God’s love with all people.

A
