  • France give Alsace-Lorraine
  • Belgium given Eupen-Malmedy
  • Poland given Posen, West Prussia and Upper Silesia (plebiscite in 1921)
  • Denmark given Northern Schleswig
  • Memel/Danzig became international cities under the LON
  • No union with Austria (Anschluss)
  • 3million Germans now in Czechoslovakia (were in Sudetenland)
  • Saar coal mines given to France for 15 years

Why did the Germans hate the treaty so much?

A
  • Huge reparations meant ‘economic slavery’
  • ‘Self-determination’ not applied to Germans
  • Only country made to disarm
  • Humiliated, lost their greatness (army)
  • Disagreed with article 231
  • Treated as if they lost/surrendered
