Nazi Ideology Flashcards
Nationalism: Nazi aims?
- Break restrictions on Germany in the treaty of V
- Revive the power of Germany
- Make Germany self-sufficient, not dependant on imports
- Expand Germany’s borders (lebensraum)
- Purify the German ‘race’
Struggle: what were the two types of struggle? Why did they benefit countries?
- Outside Germany, battle for land (lebensraum)
- Inside Germany, against non-German people
Caused countries and people to get healthier and fitter due to the struggles (Social Darwinism)
Totalitarianism: why wad Fuhrerprinzip better than democracy in Hitler’s view?
He could organise every aspect of society for the benefit of the German people (and total loyalty)
Racial Purity: who were the ‘superior’ race? Who were the inferior races?
The Aryan race, the Germanic people of northern Europe, blond hair, blue eyes
Slavs, Africans/Asians, Jews (considered ‘sub-human’)
Socialism: why different to Communism? What did Socialism mean to Hitler?
Communists wanted to take all private land and businesses, but Hitler supported capitalism
To Hitler, socialism meant running the economy in the national interest so that:
- agriculture and industry would flourish
- workers treated fairly
- businesses would not make unfair profits
- Jews could not control businesses
Traditional German Values: Hitler wanted to return to what three things? Why did he think these things had been weakened during the Weimar Rep (especially from 1924-29)?
- Strong family values (clear make/female roles)
- Christian morality
- Old style German culture (and traditional art/music etc)
Too much influence (African/Asian), ‘avant-garde’/modernist, more leisure spending/indulgence
