The Talocrural Joint Flashcards
Articulating bones
Tibia fibula talus
The talus is
Wider anteriorly than posteriorly meaning the ankle is more stable when in dorsiflexion as the wider anterior portion of the talus is gripped between the two malleolus
Arches of the foot
Lateral medial transverse
What is the talocalcaneonavicular joint
the rounded head of the talus being received into the concavity formed by the posterior surface of the navicular, the anterior articular surface of the calcaneus, and the upper surface of the planter calcaneonavicular ligament.
What is the calcaneocuboid joint
synovial articulation between the calcaneus and the cuboid bones of the foot.
Anterior talofibular ligament origin and insertion
originates from the anterior edge of the lateral malleolus of the fibula and attaches to the neck of the talus, in front of the lateral malleolar facet
Calcaneofibular ligament origin and insertion
superior attachment on the malleolar fossa on the lateral malleolus, and its inferior attachment on the lateral surface of the calcaneus.
Posterior talofibular ligament origin and insertion
originates from the malleolar fossa, located on the medial surface of the lateral malleolus, coursing almost horizontally to insert in the posterolateral talus.
Deltoid ligament origin and insertion
connecting the tibia to the navicular, the calcaneus, and the talus .
Muscles producing plantar flexion
Gastrocnemius, soleus, tibialis posterior
Muscles producing Doris flexion
Tibialis anterior, extensor hallucis longus, extensor digitorum longus,
What is the plantar fascia
a long, thin ligament that lies directly beneath the skin on the bottom of your foot. It connects the heel to the front of your foot, and supports the arch of your foot.
Plantar fascia attachment points
attaches to the heel bone (calcaneus) and to the base of the toes.
Extensor hallucis longus origin and insertion
Origin Middle third of medial surface of fibula, interosseous membrane
Insertion Base of distal phalanx of great toe
Extensor digitorum longus origin and insertion
Origin (Proximal half of) medial surface of fibula, lateral tibial condyle, interosseus membrane
Insertion Distal and middle phalanges of digits 2-5
