The Hip Flashcards
The hip joint is a ………… joint
Ball and socket
What are the articular surfaces of the hip joint?
Head of the femur, lunate surface of the acetabular
What is the acetabulum formed by?
The ischium, ilium, pubic bones
What is the Acetabular labrum?
Tough cartilage which lines the Acetabular rim to prevents bones from rubbing together.
Where does the hip joint capsule attach?
Acetabulum, transverse acetabular ligament, Obturator foreman
Capsular ligament: iliofemoral attachments?
attaches the anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) to the intertrochanteric crest of the femur.
Iliofemoral ligament function?
Prevents hyperextension when standing. During extension the ligament tightens holding the femoral head in place in the acetabulum.
Capsular ligament: pubofemoral attachment?
its base attaching to the iliopubic eminence, superior pubic ramus, obturator crest and obturator membrane.
Function of the pubofemoral ligament?
stabilizes the hip joint. It prevents the joint from moving beyond its normal range of motion, front-to-back and side-to-side. It also limits external rotation of the joint.
Capsular ligament: ishiofemoral attachment?
From the ischium behind the acetabulum and it attaches to the base of the greater trochanter.
Ishiofemoral ligament function?
Prevents excessive extension.
Intracapsular ligaments: transverse ligament of acetabulum
Is Strong and flat, bridges the Acetabular notch creating acetabular foramen where neurovascular structures enter.
Intracapsular ligament: ligamentum teres capitis femoris
connects the femoral head to the acetabulum. It is important in providing hip stability and supplies blood to the femoral head.
Innervation of the hip joint?
Nerves emerging from lumboscral pelvis (L2-S1) FEMORAL NERVE OBTURATOR NERVE SUPERIOR GLUTEAL NERVE NERVE TO QUADRATUS FEMORIS
Blood supply to the hip joint?
Blood supply comes from the medial and lateral circumflex femoral arteries, obturator arteries, superior and gluteal arteries. This network gives rise to the retinacular arteries which supply the greatest amount of blood to the femur head and neck.
Hip Flexion muscles?
Psoas major
Iliacus
Recuts femoris
