The Structure and Function of the Human Nervous System Flashcards
1
Q
How does the human nervous system work?
A
- Once a sensory receptor detects a stimulus, an impulse travels along the neuron until it reaches the central nervous system made up of the brain and the spinal cord. The cells carrying impulses from your sense organs to your CNS are called sensory neurons.
- Your CNS gets huge amounts of information from all the sensory receptors in your body. It coordinates a response to this information, and sends impulses to the rest of your body along cells called motor neurons.
- The motor neurons carry impulses to make the right bits of your body.
