The response to exercise Flashcards
1
Q
What is the response to exercise?
A
- Muscles start contracting faster and harder.
- This causes them to need more oxygen and glucose.
- Muscles store glucose as glycogen which can be converted quickly back into glucose for respiration.
2
Q
What are the changes that take place during exercise?
A
- Heart rate increases and arteries supplying blood to the muscles dilate.
- This increases the flow of oxygenated blood to the muscles.
- Also increases the supply of oxygen and glucose for the increased rate of respiration needed.
- CO2 is also removed faster from the muscles.
- Breathing rate increases bringing more oxygen into the lungs.
- Feels warm as it is an exothermic reaction.
