The response to exercise Flashcards

1
Q

What is the response to exercise?

A
  1. Muscles start contracting faster and harder.
  2. This causes them to need more oxygen and glucose.
  3. Muscles store glucose as glycogen which can be converted quickly back into glucose for respiration.

Q

What are the changes that take place during exercise?

A
  1. Heart rate increases and arteries supplying blood to the muscles dilate.
  2. This increases the flow of oxygenated blood to the muscles.
  3. Also increases the supply of oxygen and glucose for the increased rate of respiration needed.
  4. CO2 is also removed faster from the muscles.
  5. Breathing rate increases bringing more oxygen into the lungs.
  6. Feels warm as it is an exothermic reaction.
